Notes about Camomile Comics for readers of the transcribed version:
The comic is presented as individual strips each week, similar to that of a newspaper comic, with almost every strip being uniform in page size, although not uniform in the number or shapes of panels within that space. It is a relatively simple comic, with a cartooney art style that is inspired by a blend of western comedy comics and Japanese comics with cute, appealing character designs. Backgrounds and scenery are often blurry and out-of-focus unless they are necessary to establish a setting or being interacted with by the cast. When backgrounds are drawn in full, they are not drawn in a stylised manner, but the level of detail matches that of the character designs rather than aiming for realism. Character designs lean more on being cartooney, impractical and stylish in terms of clothing and hairstyles as oppose to being down-to-earth and realistic. This is partially due to the first two characters introduced - Camomile and Brianna - having established designs from visual pin-up artwork I produced of them before deciding to develop them further as comic characters.
Bare in mind that in some cases, recurring characters and settings are not known to be as such on their first appearance when reading the visual version of the comic. For example, the character Vienna appears twice as an unnamed character before she is formally named and introduced within character dialogue. I thought it was more important to use their name from the start in these cases to provide the same amount of clarity in the transcribed version as readers of the visual version would get simply by recognising the character visually, and so on.
Some minor adjustments have been made to the transcribed version where Iβm concerned the original text might not be interpreted correctly by a screen reader, such as where Iβve used made-up words to imply a non-language based sound a character is making, like groaning or screaming. As a point of trivia, Camomile normally has her name spelled with an H in it, but in the transcribed version this is omitted to ensure it is pronounced correctly with a hard C at the start.
Character Visual Descriptions
Below are visual descriptions of the main four recurring characters that are introduced within the first 50 comics, wearing what could be considered their default outfits. Characters often wear different outfits rather than sticking to one iconic appearance, depending on the weather and context. Such outfits will only be described in as much detail as is necessary for the comics. Characters introduced beyond this will be described at their first appearance.
Camomile is a female young adult in her mid-twenties with light skin and waist-length black hair that is fairly unkempt and curly. Her hair has a distinguished fringe that points up into three distinct curls above her face. She is 5 foot eight and has a curvy hourglass build, with a small waist but a larger-than-average bust and hips. Her face is fairly simple on drawn details compared to other characters in the comic, implying she prefers simple make-up. Her typical outfit consists of a grey beanie hat that rests loosely atop her voluminous hair, a cropped bright red sweater that would bare the midriff area if not for the full-torso black shiny material tank-top she wears underneath. Below this, she typically wears fitted blue jeans and knee-high grey boots.
Brianna is a female young adult in her mid-twenties, with light skin and below the shoulder brown hair that she usually wears tied into two large pigtails that hang down in front of her shoulders. The hair that is pulled down into these pigtails frame her face like large, thick curtains. She is a similar height to Camomile, with a more average build, having a slightly chubby face and torso. Her face is a little more detailed than Camomile, depicting eyelashes, and coloured-in lips implying she prefers to wear more makeup. Her typical outfit consists of a teal green tank top, elbow-length dark grey fingerless gloves, a dark grey skirt that hangs a little above her knees, brown tights, and red and white sneakers.
Vienna is a female young adult in her upper-twenties, with dark skin and shoulder-length dark brown hair that she usually wears pulled back into a large ponytail that spikes off in all directions. She has two large loose strands of hair that hang to either side of her face. She is slightly taller than Camomile and Brianna, with a fairly skinny build. Her face is distinguished by her glasses that hide her eyes with semi-cirle-shaped opaquely-coloured lenses, with flat tops and round bottoms. The shape means that she typically always appears to have a stern, serious expression unless she is smiling, which instead tends to give her a smug appearance. Occasionally, the artwork will morph her glasses into other shapes to exaggerate her expression when necessary for either comedic effect or clarity. Her typical outfit consists of a black t-shirt with a white rim that starts just below her shoulders, with two simple straps from a dark grey tank top she wears underneath it. She wears grey trousers that flare out at the bottom to touch the ground, bunched up where they rest atop her black sneakers.
Layla is a female young adult in her mid-twenties, with mildly dark skin and one of the various hijabs that she is always seen wearing. She has a somewhat slim-to-average build, with slightly more curves than Vienna but not as much weight as either Brianna or Camomile. She wears thick eyeliner and permanently has a cartooney opaque pink blush on her cheeks, implying she wears a little makeup of some kind. Her typical outfit consists of a dark greyish blue hijab with falls to her shoulders and is tied on one side in a knot, two pieces of loose fabric hanging down across one shoulder. The hijab has a fake red rose head attached to one side of it, and a fishnet head covering underneath that peeks out across Laylaβs exposed forehead. She wears three layers on her torso, firstly, a long-sleeved black top that goes down to just below her hips to cover the top area of her trousers. Above this top she wears fishnet arm sleeves and simple black bracelets on either arm, and finally on top of it all, a cropped purple t-shirt with a very simple cartoony design of a red skull with cat ears. Her trousers are dark grey jeans and on her feet she wears black and purple sneakers.
